Lifford-Stranorlar MD elects new Cathaoirleach and Leas Cathaoirleach - Donegal News

FIANNA Fáil Cllr Patrick McGowan has been elected Cathaoirleach of Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District.

Cllr McGowan takes over the role from outgoing Cathaoirleach, Fine Gael Cllr Martin Harley.

Sinn Féin Cllr Dakota Nic Mheanman was elected to the position of Leas Cathaoirleach, taking over from Cllr McGowan.

Cllr Harley thanked colleagues for their help throughout his year as chair and named the opening of the walkway at Drumboe Woods as a highlight of his year.

Cllr McGowan was proposed for the position of Cathaoirleach by Cllr Harley and seconded by Cllr Nic Mheanman.

Speaking after his election, Cllr McGowan thanked his colleagues and Cllr Harley for his assistance over the year.

“I look forward to the year ahead and making progress with all the members,” he said.

Cllr Harley proposed Cllr Nic Mheanman for the position of Leas Cathaoirleach.

Councillors extended their congratulations to Cllr McGowan and Cllr Nic Mheanman.

They also welcomed Anne Marie Conlon, who has taken over the role of Director of Housing, MD Services and Capital Projects from Patsy Lafferty upon his retirement.

Councillors wished Mr Lafferty the best for his retirement after 40 years with Donegal County Council.

Cllr Nic Mheanman added that it was “good to see” Ms Conlon at the top table of the council, given that there are only three female elected representatives in Donegal.

They are Cllr Nic Mheanman, 100% Redress Cllr Joy Beard and Independent Cllr Niamh Kennedy.
