Highland Radio is one of 21 independent radio stations across Ireland taking part in Road Safety Radio.

Join Donna-Marie Doherty on the last Saturday of every month as she speaks to road safety professionals, politicians and those sharing their own experiences on the roads of Donegal.

You’ll also hear highlights from the programme throughout your regular listening.

On this month’s edition of Road Safety Radio, Donna-Marie Doherty looks at road safety in Donegal and beyond, with Halloween celebrations underway and the dangers of drink-driving, speeding and poor visibility in focus.

Garda Grainne Doherty outlines offences detected during the recent four-day bank holiday road safety operation, while Pamela Smullen, Road Safety Officer with Donegal County Council, discusses the Be Bright, Be Safe, Be Seen campaign.

With major changes to learner permit rules coming into effect, Brendan Walsh, Chief Operations Officer at the Road Safety Authority, explains the new requirements for repeat learner permit holders and what they mean for drivers.

Donna-Marie also speaks to Garda Peter McGee of Letterkenny’s Roads Policing Unit following the AXA Roadsafe Roadshow, which brought the realities of road traffic collisions to secondary school students across Donegal.

Eamonn Karran shares the heartbreaking story of losing his son Noah in a road traffic collision just two years ago, and his message to young drivers. Plus, Kieran Maguire of the Garage Project with Pro-Social discusses road safety education, driver behaviour and the dangers of getting behind the wheel the morning after a night out:
