Dr Sugrue received an award for his outstanding contribution and tireless work as Consultant Breast and General Surgeon at Letterkenny University Hospital.

Accepting the award, Michael spoke of his love for Donegal and the character of the people here that made both his work life and personal life such a joy. Michael praised his colleagues for their steadfast support and acknowledged those who came before him.

The event was held at the Public Services Centre, Letterkenny, on Wednesday, May 20. A screening of Michael’s new collection of photographs of Donegal was played, with accompanying music provided by Clann Mic Ruairí.

Cllr Ciaran Brogan, Mayor, congratulated Michael and recognised the great benefit that Letterkenny University Hospital, and indeed the whole community, had received in Michael’s arrival 18 years ago, and highlighted Michael’s key role in advocating for a surgical hub in Letterkenny.
