The call, which has been circulating on social media, was made by Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer .

Cllr O’Dwyer, who represents the Kildare- Newbridge Municipal District, explained that ‘significant damage’ was caused to the boundary fencing and gates at Newbridge Hotspurs Football Club’s pitch, in addition to the pitch itself.

However, Cllr O’Dwyer stressed: “Outstanding damages still need to be repaired.”

She also claimed: “This pitch, which is cared for by a small group of volunteers, has been the victim of damage in the past.”

Cllr O’Dwyer concluded with the following appeal: “It is used by both adults and children, so if anyone sees suspicious behaviour, please report to gardaí.”
