Darragh Murphy In Waterford Courthouse last week, a judge was informed of a drug-related incident that took place on Castle Street in Waterford city.
On January 19, members of the Garda Drugs Unit became suspicious of a male in the area.
Upon approaching him, the man forced a quantity of drugs into his mouth and swallowed them.
The man was identified as being Adam Halligan (25), of Maplewood, Templars Hall, Waterford.
He pleaded guilty last week to a charge of obstructing a drug search.
Halligan has 56 previous convictions, including 22 for theft, and 14 for possession of drugs.
For his charge of obstruction, Halligan did not receive further prosecution, and instead the charge was taken into consideration.
