A local Laois soccer club has applied for planning permission for the construction of a new clubhouse.

Arlington Soccer Club in Portarlington have submitted a planning application to Laois County Council to demolish their existing clubhouse to make way for the construction of a new one.

The proposed new clubhouse is intended to provide an increased number of changing rooms and a flexible multi-purpose space which will allow the facility to accommodate a wider range of club activities and community use.

According to the soccer club, the development aims to provide a “modern, safe and fit-for-purpose facility that responds to the club’s current and anticipated future needs.”

They argue: “The proposal represents an opportunity to replace an existing facility with a purpose-designed clubhouse that is better suited to the club’s present and future requirements, while continuing to support its important role within the local community.”

Big upgrade planned at Laois town’s business park The design of the new clubhouse has given particular consideration to the needs of children and young people using the facility.

The proposed layout is intended to provide “improved levels of comfort, privacy and safety,” while allowing the club to accommodate its growing membership in a more appropriate and functional environment.

Arlington Soccer Club said the architectural approach “reflects the character of the existing clubhouse and seeks to maintain the club’s established identity within its local context.”

Laois County Council are due to make their decision by October 27.
