An update has been released by Kildare County Council (KCC) in relation to a planned community sports ground development.

The information was provided to councillors who attended the latest Athy Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Monday, June 15 last.

The subject of the development arose just before the conclusion of this meeting, when Fianna Fáil Cllr Brian Dooley (who appeared at the meeting by virtual means) submitted the following question to KCC: “Can KCC provide an update on the Ardrew Community Sports Ground development?”

“The project is currently at a very early stage, with a formal kick-off meeting that took place with the design team on Wednesday, June 10 last.

“Following this initial engagement, we will work collaboratively with the design team to establish a clear programme and roadmap for delivery; this will include setting out an indicative timeline, including an estimated timeframe for the statutory public consultation phase.”

KCC concluded: “A further update will be provided once this programme has been developed.”

Another councillor who was present at the meeting, Fine Gael Cllr Ivan Keatley (who is also the Mayor of the MD), also welcomed the report, adding: “It is great to see this [project] progressing.”
