Parents of children with autism in County Roscommon say the system of care is broken.

It was revealed just last month that almost 300 children with disabilities in the Shannonside region were overdue needs assessments.

Roscommon was the worst affected county with 125 kids left waiting - 105 of these were more than three months late.

Autism assessments are carried out by Children's Disability Network teams and Primary Care services.

Parents say they've been left waiting for crucial timely support and that communication from the HSE is poor.

Dan Dooner spoke with Lisa Dowd, a mother of four who lives in Knockcroghery in south Roscommmon about her experience.

All four of Lisa's children have been diagnosed with autism.
