Plan for park bench in memory of ‘great town man’ Jack Boyce - Donegal News

PLANS to name a park bench in honour of well-respected Letterkenny man Jack Boyce are moving forward.

Jack was remembered as a “great town man” at yesterday’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District (MD).

Cathaoirleach Pauric McGarvey proposed a motion for a bench to be installed at Ballymacool Town Park and named after Jack in recognition of his “hard work, craic and dedication”.

Councillors heard how Jack started his career at Rockhill before joining the Letterkenny Fire Brigade.

He then took up a position with Donegal County Council, where he worked for 39 years until his retirement as a town foreman.

Cllr McGarvey said Jack always kept “the people’s interests at heart” and was “highly respected” in the local community.

Jack was also a family man and was a devoted husband to his wife Elizabeth and father to daughters Pretella (Peter), Ann and Cecilia. He was also father to Maud Gormley and Mary Hamilton, who have sadly passed away.

Cllr McGarvey said a park bench would provide Jack’s surviving children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with “a place to sit and share the stories and lasting memories that Jack imprinted in their lives”.

Cllr McGarvey was informed that a location for the bench has been identified within Ballymacool Park.

Once funding has been identified, work can progress to install the bench.
