A man has been fined after being caught travelling at 140km/h on a main road in Donegal.

Patrick Simpson was detected at 140km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N13 at Castleforward, Newtowncunningham, on August 12, 2026.

The case of Simpson, a 36-year-old of Figary, Fahan, was before Letterkenny District Court.

Simon was charged with dangerous driving, but Garda Sergeant Jim Collins said that in light of a guilty plea the charge could be reduced to one of careless driving.

Sergeant Collins said that Simpson - who the court heard is in Scotland at college - was fully apologetic and there was no other traffic on the road at the time.

Judge Ciaran Liddy fined Simpson €150 and gave him three months to pay.
