Visibility issues along dual carriageway raises concerns for motorists - Donegal News

A SAFETY assessment has been carried out at Manorcunningham Roundabout after visibility concerns were raised by motorists.

Cllr Donal Coyle submitted a motion to the July meeting of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District (MD) after speaking with concerned drivers.

“On the island at the roundabout, the trees and foliage are causing problems with visibility for motorists,” he explained.

The Fianna Fáil councillor also called for better signage on the dual carriageway approaching the roundabout, as he said there are “problems” with cars moving into the wrong lane on the way from Letterkenny to Lifford.

The motion was seconded by his party colleague Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly, who said a similar motion he brought a few months “shows the urgency” of the situation.

Cllr Coyle welcomed the news that the assessment has already been completed.

He was informed that the report findings will be issued to councillors and staff of the Letterkenny-Milford MD.

Separately, Cllr Coyle also brought a motion calling on the council to cut the grass on the central reservation along the dual carriageway.

He said vision lines had become impaired by overgrown grass, in particular at the Trimragh junction heading towards the Big Isle.

Cllr Coyle acknowledged the need for biodiversity but said the grass was causing a “safety issue”.

The official council response to the motion reads: “The council will maintain vision lines at the junctions and carry out a full cut of the Dual Carriageway in September / October 2026.”
