Council Affairs: Enough of the anarchy

What kind of chicanery can we expect from Mayor Moran in the coming months? Anyone’s guess, but visionary high-jinks can surely be expected.

THAT’S it now, school is back, and the beach is just about packed away in storage for another year!

The man who hasn’t heard of Kilkee has put away the bucket and spade and is now surely focusing on his next plan to upset our easily riled councillors in the months ahead. Anything to get a reaction out of those Fianna Fáil-ers.

What kind of chicanery can we expect from Mayor Moran in the coming months? Anyone’s guess, really, but visionary high-jinks can surely be expected.

He hasn’t let us down since being first elected, with endless drama and dissension thrown his way at every step, junction, and thoroughfare. Surely someone will already be planning their next motion or last minute meeting over one or other of his cunning plans in the days and weeks ahead.

Who knows, maybe Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon will finally take our Baywatch overseer up on the offer of shooting the breeze and passing the peace pipe in his Merchant’s Quay garret? Stranger things have happened.

If the executive Mayor can get West Limerick stalwarts Adam Teskey and Stephen Keary eating out of his hand, anything is possible.

It’s a funny old game, this local politics lark! As Groucho Marx once put it, “Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies.”

That sounds like some of the stooges down in City Hall, for sure!

Before the summer break there was positive signs of a softening in the Council chamber towards our new local authority overlord. Hopefully we’ll see more of this in the weeks ahead, with everyone pulling together for Team Limerick. Enough now councillors of devoting their energies to trying to prove that our mayor is unfit to rule.

Change the record, ye naysayers, and let’s see ye all applying the right antidotes to see houses built, infrastructure delivered, and a united front for everyone’s benefit.

We’ve had the rule of fools in the past, and that didn’t serve us too well either, so make a real go of it together and do Limerick proud. Enough of the anarchy!

Mayor Moran has previously claimed, and with just cause, that some councillors from Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are constantly trying to undermine him and make his role “unbearable”.

For too long our politicians have gotten away with fooling all the people all the time. It’s time then that we stop voting against our own interests and demand that our councillors pull up their socks and work with the Mayor for all our benefit. No more working to get national headlines for the wrong reasons – you too, Mayor! We’ll be watching!
