Organisers must remove signage after events – Mayo councillor | Connaught Telegraph

By Staff reporter · Connaught Telegraph · 11 June 2026

EVENT organisers who put up posters and signs have been reminded of their obligation to take them down again.

They are being left wrapped around poles and at other locations, and Councillor Michael Burke has highlighted concerns raised by people in Tidy Towns about the practice.

They all support signage for promoting events, but they can't be left up, he told a municipal meeting.

Councillor Burke was invited to look at a sign that is in place on a timber pallet for almost five weeks now, which was 'totally out of order'. The relevant warden has been notified.

And there is stuff wrapped around poles with sellotape and left there, and they have to go back to fining people who break the rules, he said.

It's totally fine to promote an event, but the signs have to come down a few days after, he stressed.
