Significant water upgrade passes halfway mark in north-west Donegal

A significant water upgrade has passed the halfway mark in north-west Donegal.

Works in the Port na Bláiche and An Craoslach areas are now past the halfway stage and moving into Phase 2 in the coming days.

The project involves the replacement of ageing water mains with new modern pipes along sections of the N56 between An Fhothair and Droim na Rátha. To date, more than 800 metres of new water mains have been successfully installed , with a further 500 metres to be laid as part of the project.

To ensure the works are delivered safely and efficiently, traffic lights will remain in place while construction continues. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times. Farrans Construction is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with the project expected to be completedin early summer of this year.

When complete, the works will deliver greater confidence in the water supply for communities in An Fhothair, Port na Bláiche and Droim na Rátha, An Craoslach. This project forms part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, which continues to deliver benefits to communities across Ireland, including improved water quality, a more resilient and sustainable water supply, and significant water savings.
