Caoimhin Treacy WORKS to improve pedestrian safety at Athy train station appear to be moving closer following an on-site meeting review.

The issue was raised the most recent meeting of Athy Municipal District, where cllr Brian Dooley asked Kildare County Council for “an update on the plan for safe pedestrian access” to the station.

Senior engineer in transport operations Chris Galvin issued the council’s response, which said the following: “There is currently an uncontrolled crossing between the carpark and the train station, and we are currently reviewing the site and potential alternatives.”

Cllr Aoife Breslin spoke to acknowledge a meeting that she had with Mr Galvin and another council official at the train station last Friday, where they had a “very good conversation”.

Cllr Breslin said that “some really good ideas” were discussed during the on-site meeting and indicated that the council will go back to the elected members to seek funding for the project.
