Safety repairs for a damaged speed bump located near a County Kildare school have been welcomed by a local representative.

Fine Gael councillor Tracey O’Dwyer welcomed the news, which was revealed at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting on Wednesday, July 15 last.

During the early stages of this meeting, Cllr O’Dwyer, who appeared by virtual means, motioned for Kildare County Council (KCC) to carry out the repairs to the speed bump near St Bridget’s Primary School in Kilcullen.

Cllr O’Dwyer’s motion was seconded by her party colleague, Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer.

Fine Gael Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer | PHOTOGRAPH CREDIT: KILDARECOCO.IE Speaking further on her motion, Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer explained to KCC that the speed bump served as ‘a vital piece of infrastructure for slowing down vehicles directly outside the school gates’.

However, the gradual wear and tear had left the speed bump with a ‘sharp edge’, which she claimed was ‘concerning’ for local motorists.

In response to the request, KCC told Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer via the report it presented at the meeting: “The Municipal District office agrees to assess the speed bumps at St Bridget’s School Kilcullen and will carry out remedial works as required.”

Following this, Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer replied by saying she welcomed the ‘very positive’ report.

“I look forward to seeing these repairs completed in the near future,” she added.
