Residents in one Kildare region want additional lighting

Residents in one County Kildare region want additional lighting to be installed in their local area.

That’s according to Fine Gael councillor Peggy O’Dwyer, who made the comments at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Wednesday, June 17 last.

The topic arose during the early stages of the meeting, when she motioned for Kildare County Council (KCC) to ‘assess The Mill Lane (The Commons) in Roseberry, Newbridge for additional public lighting’.

Her motion was seconded by her party colleague, Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer.

Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer | FILE PHOTO In response to Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer’s motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: “The requests for the provision of additional public lighting at both Mill Lane (The Commons) and Roseberry Hill, Newbridge have been assessed in accordance with the KLIPS Criteria and are included on the Kildare–Newbridge MD KLIPS priority list.

“Roseberry Hill is currently ranked as Priority No. 2, while Mill Lane is ranked as Priority No. 3 on this list,” KCC added. “The Public Lighting Section will liaise with the Public Lighting maintenance contractor to obtain the necessary quotations for the proposed works.”

However, KCC also told Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer: “It should be noted that the delivery of these schemes will be subject to the availability of funding and will be progressed in line with their priority ranking.”

Speaking further on her motion, Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer emphasised to KCC that residents living in the region are seeking the installation of more lighting in the area.

Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer added that while she noted the report, she also pointed out: “€50,000 from this MD was previously allocated this year for [the provision of] lighting within the MD.”

The Mayor of the MD, Fianna Fáil Cllr Noel Heavey, then briefly spoke in support of Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer’s motion, and stressed to KCC that there is ‘very little lighting down there’.
