A local councillor has branded the lack of car parking facilities at Errigal “dangerous.”

Elevated at 751m above sea level, Errigal is Donegal ’s highest peak and a stand-out attraction. Only a small number of parking spaces are available and as a result, large volumes of cars are parked on either side of the road, as people climb the mountain.

“I have to say, I love when I see people up the mountain enjoying the good weather, people from all over, but what I don't enjoy seeing is all these cars,” independent councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig said. “It is absolutely a disgrace that we as a council aren't able to facilitate these cars properly, as you see at Croagh Padraig. This is dangerous.

“The amount of people that have been in contact with me saying they nearly knocked people down here, especially lorry and bus drivers, who are professional and careful. People are walking right out in front of them and opening doors. This is absolutely ridiculous.”
