Raphoe car hijacker rams Garda car

Over the last two weeks, Jonathan Glenn (43) of Beltany, Raphoe has appeared twice at Letterkenny District court twice by video link from Castlerea prison on a wide range of charges.

At the first sitting Garda Gillian Page presented a book of evidence where Glenn was charged with hijacking a Ford Mondeo on January 14, 2018 from Lidl on the Port Road in Letterkenny, and assaulting the owner of the vehicle.

On the same date and at the same location he was charged with having no licence or insurance to drive the vehicle.

At Stralongford, Drumkeen, on the same date he was further charged with speeding and crashing into a Garda car and causing €7,000 of damage to the vehicle.

He was charged on February 10, 2018, with an alleged theft at Dunne Stores in Letterkenny Oldtown. The court heard that he stole two bottles of alcohol worth €54.50.

On April 22, 2018 he was charged with trespassing at The Park, Blue Cedars, Ballybofey.

He was charged with possession of cannabis in Convoy, for the purpose of supply to others on December 23, 2017.

Glenn was previously fined for a number of road traffic offences between July and October, 2017.

At the sitting on Monday past, defending solicitor Mr Donough Cleary told the court that there had been been an issue with the book of evidence from the earlier sitting. Garda Gillian Page served the book of evidence with the corrected details.

Sergeant Oliver Devaney old the court on Monday past that Glenn would be sent forward for trial at Letterkenny Circuit Court on the hijacking of the Ford Mondeo and ramming the Garda car charges.

Judge Emile Daly scheduled the hearing for the July 21 sitting of the Circuit Court and read the alibi warning to Glenn. There was no application made for bail and Glenn is remanded in custody in Castlerea until the hearing.

Defending solicitor Donough Cleary applied for legal aid on behalf of his client to include two counsels.
