Man charged in connection with drug seizure of over half a million in Limerick village

A MAN who was arrested in connection with the seizure of €643,000 worth of drugs in Annacotty, Limerick is to appear before a special sitting of the Limerick District Court.

The man, who is aged in his 30s, will appear at Limerick Courthouse, Mulgrave Street at 2.30pm, April 30, Thursday.

An Garda Síochána have stated that the man who was arrested in connection with the seizure investigation, has since been charged.

Members of the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit searched a residence in Annacotty, as part of ongoing investigations into the sale and supply of drugs in the Mid-West region on Wednesday, April 30.

During the searches Gardaí recovered suspected cannabis to the estimated street value of €470,000, suspected cocaine to the estimated street value of €140,000 and prescription tablets valued at over €33,000. Gardaí also seized a quantity of cash and other drug paraphernalia.

The drugs have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland for testing.

The seizure was part of Operation Tara, which has the goal of protecting communities from the scourge of illegal drugs.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
