A public meeting has been arranged in support of the fire service on Arranmore Island.

The meeting is scheduled to take place in the Hall on Wednesday, July 22, at 7:30pm.

Organised by Independent Councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig, the event has been organised to call for financial support to remain for the fire service.

“The council are removing the two paid positions,” he claimed. “A very committed fire service is not getting the recognition they deserve and is not paid equally to those on the mainland.

“I have been in contact with the council and I don’t approve of these two paid positions being removed; all positions should be paid. I have requested an emergency meeting as I strongly believe the committed staff should get the same respect as the mainland.”
