A subsidised food store is to open in Tralee later this year. It’ll open on Rock Street and it’s hoped that it’ll be open in October or November.

It’ll open on Rock Street and it’s hoped that it’ll be open in October or November.
The aim of this store is to give people choice by offering surplus foods.
At the moment Foodshare Kerry and St Vincent de Paul give out food vouchers to individuals and families who need them.
Paddy Kevane of St Vincent de Paul is on the board of Foodshare Kerry.
He says in the Tralee area, they’ve already spent over €100,000 on food vouchers this year, despite not reaching their busiest period yet:
Bud's Family Resource Centre in Ballyduff is one of the community organisations that works with FoodShare Kerry and national umbrella organisation FoodCloud to deliver food in North Kerry.
Manager of the Ballyduff centre, Nora Lucid says food poverty is a growing problem in the community.
She says they’ve helped over 600 adults and more than 300 children last year:
