Kerryman on theft and drugs charges in Galway

A 36-year-old man accused of stealing €120,000 from a Kerry business and committing drugs, public order and weapons offences in Galway City last week, is to apply for bail, a court has heard.

Barrister Garry McDonald BL told Galway District Court that he was putting the State on notice that next week a bail application will be made on behalf of his client, Gavin Keane. Keane did not apply for bail at a special sitting of the District Court on Sunday following his arrest in Galway.

Judge Fiona Lydon remanded the accused in custody to appear in person in court on April 27.

In the case, Keane, with an address at Greenville, Listowel, Co Kerry, is charged that on April 16 at Mac Fuel and General Supplies Ltd, Clieveragh, Listowel, he stole €120,000 cash and a HP laptop.

He also faces five charges arising from alleged incidents at the Skerritt Roundabout, old Dublin Road, Galway on April 18. He is accused of possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purposes of sale or supply, possession of a glass bottle for use or for injuring or incapacitating someone, and a breach of the peace.
