It’s time to extend Kilkenny’s "public transport spine"

By Dermot Keyes · KCLR · 22 September 2026

The application to extend a bus service linking Kilkenny to Waterford would cater for those accessing secondary and third level education.

If approved, this would mean students could arrive in Waterford at 8:10am each weekday, matching the existing 365 service which links Kilkenny to Carlow.

Those backing the proposal believe it would also create a fresh transport connection in South Kilkenny for those wishing to access services at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) and would also enhance socialising opportunities to and from the city across the south of the county.

KCLR News spoke to Piltown Municipal District Councillor Tomás Breathnach (Lab) about the proposal which he has played a key part in developing.
