Councillor calls for operators of clothing bank in Bundoran to be removed - Donegal Daily

A Bundoran-based councillor is calling for the operators a clothing bank to be removed due to their inability to do the job properly.

Sinn Féin councillor Michael McMahon has expressed his dissatisfaction with the operators of a clothing bank in Bundoran.

McMahon raised the issue at a recent meeting of the Donegal Municipal District in Donegal Town.

"I want them out of there. You would be better with them gone. At the end of the day, they are not doing their job, and they are not emptying the bottle banks.

"They are not emptying the bins on a regular basis, and there is clothes coming down into those bins left, right and centre," said McMahon.

The clothing bank is located in Astoria Car Park in the scenic seaside town of Bundoran.

However, McMahon says the car park is being left in a mess on a regular basis.

"There are five bins in Astoria Car Park, and if they are emptied once a week then you're lucky, but it's normally every two weeks.

"There is a huge mess of clothes and shoes overflowing and everything else in between, and it's then left to Tidy Towns committee to clean it up and try to discard the clothes, and it's just not right," said McMahon.

The Sinn Féin councillor requested the Donegal County Council to provide him with information on the company, as he is unsure who the operating vendor of the clothing bank actually is.

However, McMahon said if they don't buck up their ideas then he'll be tabling an official motion calling for their removal.

"I was told that the council doesn't have any say in this, but I want information on the company. Who are they, and how can I contact them?

"At the end of the day, if they don't change the way they are going then I'll be tabling a proposal here that they move those bins, and we get a new company to do the job. It's very important to have clothing banks there, and I acknowledge that, but it's also very important to keep the area clean.
