A South African woman who has made her home in the region is appealing to the Government to allow her to stay in Ireland.
Shameliah Masood made Kilnaleck her home back in 2023 and has been volunteering at Suil Eile, a community cafe in Kilnaleck ever since.
Shameliah says her and her husband and two children were terrorised in South Africa and says it’s not safe for her to return to Cape Town.
According to local man Eugene Farrelly, she is a popular figure in the Kilnaleck community and the people of the area want her to stay.
Shameliah and her family have been denied asylum and she and her family are scheduled for deportation on October 29th.
