Carer’s Support Grant 2026 paid to more than 6,290 carers in Kildare

The annual grant is available to all carers providing full-time care

The Carer’s Support Grant 2026 has been paid this week to more than 6,290 carers in County Kildare .

The grant, which was recently increased to €2,000, is available to carers all across the country who provide full-time care for their patients.

The allocation has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O’Loughlin, who noted that, in total, over 147,000 carers will benefit from the fund, with the total payments expected to be in the region of €336 million.

She elaborated: “The grant is paid automatically to people receiving Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, or Domiciliary Care Allowance.

“It's also available to other full-time carers who are not receiving any of these payments.

She added: “The grant is paid in respect of each person being cared for; over 18,000 carers are providing care for two or more people and will receive a grant for each person they are caring for.”

Senator O’Loughlin also claimed that the increase to the grant ‘is a recognition of the vital role of carers and the contribution they make to society’.

She also pointed that further improvements to the Carer’s Allowance, including changes to the weekly income disregard, will come into effect in July.

According to Senator O’Loughlin, these improvement will provide additional support and flexibility for carers ‘who wish to remain connected to the workforce’.

Concluding her statement, Senator O'Loughlin said: “I want to acknowledge every carer in Kildare for their contribution to our local community and thank them for the difference they make every single day.”
