Several motorists from Northern Ireland have been fined in Donegal for speeding and other road traffic-related offences.

The cases came before Judge Emile Daly at Letterkenny District Court on Tuesday after they were all adjourned earlier in the year to await a High Court ruling.

The adjournments followed a High Court ruling in a case brought by Co Armagh man, Jack Evans, over the service of summonses on people living outside the State. The court found that serving a summons by registered post outside the jurisdiction was not lawful in the circumstances of his case.

That ruling prompted the adjournment of a large number of cases involving defendants in Northern Ireland while its implications were considered.

The High Court did not, however, rule that such cases were automatically invalid, leaving the consequences of any defect in service to be considered in the individual cases.

Kyle McGuigan, 38, of Lismore Park, Sion Mills, was charged with an offence on October 13, 2024.

Garda Elaine Kavanagh told the court that she was operating a speed check on the N13 at Dromore, Letterkenny, when she detected a green Volkswagen Passat travelling at 140km/h in a 100km/h zone.

The vehicle was stopped at 7.45pm and McGuigan was identified as the driver.

Gareth McClay, a 25-year-old from Moyola Walk, Derry, was detected driving at 138km/h on July 19, 2025 at Dromore, Letterkenny.

Garda Stephen Campbell said that McClay, who was driving an Audi A6, was issued with a fixed charge penalty notice, but it was unpaid.

Garda Garrett Monaghan told the court that he was operating a speed check when he stopped a blue Volkswagen Golf being driven by Keelan Doherty at 12.15pm on September 15, 2025.

Doherty was driving at 134km/h at Rossbracken, Letterkenny, a road governed by a 100km/h speed limit.

Dermot Murphy, 32, of Cregglea, Claudy, was clocked at 134km/h at Drumgreggan, a road that has a 100km/h speed limit.

Garda Campbell told the court that he stopped Murphy, who was driving a BMW, at 3.30pm on November 7, 2025.

Garda Kavanagh outlined the case of Michelle Mitchell, 33, to the court. Mitchell, of Leenan Gardens, Derry, was detected travelling at 131km/h on the N13 at Dromore, at 11.55am on November 6, 2024.

Keelan McCourt, a 32-year-old from Cheadle Park, Derry, was detected at 129km/h in a 100km/h zone at Rossbracken, at 6.30pm on December 1, 2025.

Garda Monaghan told the court that he stopped the blue Ford Transit and spoke with McCourt at the time

Jordan Maguire, of Farland Way, Derry, was clocked driving a black Mercedes at 122km/h at Dromore, Letterkenny, a road that has a 100km/h speed limit, at 2.45pm on August 29, 2025.

Garda Monaghan outlined that he spoke to the driver, Maguire, and later issued a fixed charge penalty notice, which was unpaid. Maguire, aged 29, was fined €420 in court.

A Co Tyrone lorry driver was also hit with a €400 fine after being observed holding a mobile phone.

Jack Donnelly, 24, of Main Street, Sixmilecross, was detected at 6.05pm on October 8, 2025 at Ballyraine by Garda Monaghan.

After a fixed charge penalty notice for the offence went unpaid, Donnelly was summoned to court.
