David Flynn A number of appointments to the Local Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee were ratified at a recent meeting of Roscommon County Council.
Director of services Chris Flynn told the meeting that the role of the committee is to advise the council on the provision and management of accommodation for members of the Traveller community, including the preparation and implementation of the Traveller accommodation programme, and to provide an important liaison between Travellers, elected members, and council officials.
“The making of appointments to the committee is a reserved function of the elected members under Section 22 of the Act and the council has been asked to approve the appointment of the following council officials, which is myself as director of services, Anne McHugh, senior executive officer, Vincent Walsh as senior executive engineer, Martina Flanagan as administrative officer, and Antoinette Dolan as housing and traveller liaison officer and it is also proposed to appoint the following representatives of the local Travellers and Traveller bodies, Gail Murray, project coordinator with the Roscommon Traveller Health Project, John Ward and John McDonagh,” said Mr Flynn.
“The proposed membership will bring together the elected members, relevant council staff and representatives of the traveller community.
“This will ensure that the committee has both the operational knowledge and lived experience required to support meaningful consultation on traveller accommodation matters,” added Mr Flynn.
The appointments were proposed by Cllr Tom Crosby and seconded by Cllr. Valerie Byrne.
