When Jason Bennett (30), Coolanarney, Blueball, Tullamore, appeared before the court, Sergeant Brendan Kearns sought an adjournment for 12 weeks for directions from the DPP, saying there may be a more serious charge.

David Nugent , BL, defending Mr Bennett, said the matter had come before the court in June and suggested that putting it back for six weeks would suffice.

Seven counties hit with weather warnings as rain set to batter parts of Ireland Judge Andrew Cody remanded Mr Bennett on bail to appear again on December 9 next for directions from the DPP but made the order peremptory against the State, meaning the prosecution is at risk if directions are not forthcoming on that date.

Mr Bennett is accused of damaging a number of items at 20 The Granary, Tullamore on June 16 last, including door frames, the handle of a bedroom door, a mattress, an internal door and bedroom furniture.
