'One-stop shop for guidance': New Longford addiction support website launched

The site has links to a range of helpful services for adults, parents and under-18’s

​A new information and support website, CLDAF.ie ( County Longford Drug and Alcohol Forum) has been launched to provide online support for citizens and professionals tackling substance misuse.

The launch, which took place in the Longford Arms Hotel, was attended by a variety of professionals including the Longford Gardaí, the HSE, the Midland Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force, and Merchant’s Quay Ireland. The website, CLDAF.ie, promotes links to a wide range of helpful services for adults, parents and under-18’s in Longford in relation to substance misuse.

The site also connects visitors to information such as up-to-date drug names - a valuable resource for parents and professionals dealing with young people and who wish to familiarise themselves with the ever changing database of narcotic nicknames.

In praising the new resource, Inspector Declan McGlynn said “It’s a fantastic graduation from what was a paper-based project, growing over 18 years to today, where we're IT friendly.

Inspector McGlynn added, "The site is a one-stop shop for support and guidance in a wide number of areas. It provides incredible support for Longford community groups and families." Addressing the crowd, Inspector Patrick McGirl discussed Drug Related Intimidation and Violence Engagement (DRIVE), which concentrates on helping people experiencing drug related intimidation and violence."

Said Insp McGirl, “If someone is in the throes of addiction and their family is affected by drug related intimidation, that can take numerous forms such as threats, online threats, intimidation, and criminal damage to the extent of windows being broken and houses being burned." Insp McGirl added, "I don’t have to go into detail of the serious incidents that have happened recently in Longford as I’m sure you’re aware of them but all of those have come under the umbrella of drug related intimidation.”
