Tullow CS students win ‘Relove Fashion’ final - News - Carlow Nationalist

Laoise Murray THREE students from Tullow Community School were crowned southern regional winners at the Relove Fashion competition at Dublin City University on 15 April. Ronan Cossee, Ben Blackburn and Kaspars Kaminskis won in the overall category for their wearable, washable fashion design made entirely from unwanted and unexpected materials.

Fifty-eight finalists from 29 local authority areas took part in the competition, with just 24 award-winners selected. A second team from Tullow Community School ‒ Anna Narnicka and Michelle Romanowicz ‒ also travelled to DCU to take part in the event.

Finalists transformed old garments and household textiles, including umbrellas, pillowcases and shower curtains, into striking outfits, learning new skills as they did so. The purpose was to have young people rethink the environmental impact of clothing and to recognise young people’s pivotal role in shaping innovative solutions.

The judging panel included Sinéad Ní Mhainnín, representing the Regional Waste Management Planning Offices, broadcaster and journalist Lorraine Keane, and Orla Langan, designer and NCAD lecturer.

Carlow Co Council said it was proud to support the initiative, and its environment department encouraged young people across Co Carlow to register their interest in taking part in the Relove Fashion programme in September.

The competition is funded through a partnership between the Department of Climate, Energy and Environment, the Regional Waste Management Planning Offices, participating local authorities and powered by the Rediscovery Centre, Ireland’s National Centre for the Circular Economy.
