Getting a child car seat securely fitted is every parents' responsibility - but it's also something that is surprisingly easy to get wrong. More than half of child car seats checked by the Road Safety Authority so far this year were fitted incorrectly. Among the issues identified by the Road Safety Authority are seatbelts that are too loose, belts that haven't been threaded through the seat correctly, and car seats that aren't suitable for the child or the vehicle.
And as children grow, their car seats and harnesses need to be checked to ensure they're still appropriate. Child car seat expert with the RSA, Ron Richardson, explains what parents can do to make sure their child is travelling safely.
This road safety programme is made with the support of the IBI and the Sound and Vision scheme, a Coimisiún na Meán initiative funded by the television licence fee.
