Long-awaited yellow boxes are set to be installed at two busy Letterkenny roundabouts next week in an effort to improve traffic flow.
Donegal County Council’s line marking contractor is due to carry out the work at the N56 Kiltoy and Knocknamona Roundabouts on Monday night.
The move follows calls from local councillors for measures to prevent motorists from blocking exits at the junctions.
Cllr Donal Mandy Kelly has welcomed confirmation that the works will now take place.
“This is great news and something that we councillors have been calling for for a long time," he said.
“This won’t fix the traffic problems we have in Letterkenny, but it’s a step in the right direction and will hopefully help traffic flow better.
“There have been long-standing issues at both roundabouts, with cars blocking exits due to the lack of yellow boxes.

"Hopefully now drivers will pay attention to the yellow boxes once they are in place and leave the exits free so traffic can flow better.
“I want to thank Donegal County Council for taking these concerns on board and now acting on them.”
Cllr Kelly acknowledged that further interventions will still be required to address Letterkenny’s wider traffic problems.
“We have a long way to go to improve traffic flow," he said.
"Measures such as slip lanes at Thomas Keys' shop and improvements at the Polestar Roundabout are just some of the things I will continue to fight for."
