‘Dangerous’ east Donegal road to be flagged to ministers - Donegal News

By Naomi Hamilton O'Donnell · Donegal News · 13 October 2026

AN EAST Donegal road with “dangerous corners” will be raised with the Minister for Transport.

A letter will be sent to the Department of Transport outlining the “urgent need” for sections of the N15 Stranorlar to Castlefin to be relined.

The issue was raised at yesterday’s meeting of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District (MD).

Cathaoirleach of the MD, Cllr Patrick McGowan asked: “That a letter is sent to Minister for Transport, Darragh O Brien and Minister of State for Transport and Roads, Seán Canney and their respective officials, highlighting the urgent need to re-line the dangerous corners on the N15 Stranorlar to Castlefin.”

Outlining the motion, he said: “This road is totally inadequate and very dangerous for the volume of traffic 247, seven days a week. There were two fatalities on this road two years ago and there are several accidents every month on this 15km length of road.

“The N15 Stranorlar to Lifford was a County-wide priority before the TEN-T was agreed. The Lifford Stranorlar MD are asking for a delegation to meet with the Ministers and their respective officials to discuss moving this forward.”

The motion was seconded by Independent councillor Martin Scanlon.

As the motion was passed, arrangements will now be made to contact the relevant ministers.

In an official response, Cllr McGowan was informed: “The need for improvements on this route have been highlighted at TII delegations repeatedly.

“The ongoing Corcam Bends project will deal with a section of this road, however, a pipeline of future National Road projects is required to be supported by the Plenary Council and ultimately funded by TII so that further improvements can be progressed.”
