Hedge causing “extremely dangerous” situation – meeting told

Cllr Sean McGowan (FF) tabled a motion calling for the work to be done as it is an “extremely dangerous” situation at present.

“I ask the District Engineer to put in place a programme of works to remove the hedge for approximately 100 metres along the R201 from where the local road at L7483 at Laheenamona exits onto the Mohill-Carrick road and replace it with a timber lath and rail fence,” the motion stated.

“The hedge is obstructing the view for motorists exiting from the local road, as they have to venture out over the white line to get a view back towards Carrick to see if there is traffic coming and it is extremely dangerous with the speed of some motorists on this road,” the motion added.

“I ask that the hedge be removed because people would then get a view and it is dangerous at present,” Cllr McGowan told the meeting.

His motion was supported by Cllr Paddy Farrell (FF). “This is a dangerous section and road and needs to be looked at,” he said.

District Engineer Emma Donohue told the meeting that, “the hedge will be cut back. It is not intended that there would be a low cost safety scheme at this junction.”
