Offaly garage worker's four-year driving ban lifted after three years

A MAN will be permitted to drive again in July after having his licence restored at Tullamore District Court .

Garage worker Piotr Osinski, Scurragh, Birr had been disqualified from driving for four years in July 2023 after being convicted to driving without insurance and without a licence.

When Mr Osinski applied at Tullamore District Court to have the licence restored his solicitor, Brian Duffy , said that because two-thirds of the disqualification period was up the court had discretion in the matter.

In his own evidence Mr Osinski said he had not driven since being banned and explained the impact of the disqualification on him.

“I work in a garage and it has a really big effect on me,” he said.

Mr Osinski said he had a 10-month-old daughter and it was very hard for the family because his partner had to drive all the time.

He acknowledged that he had also been disqualified previously for a year. “I'm really sorry,” he told Judge Andrew Cody .

The man also explained that he had a motor trade insurance policy but to be covered he required a licence.

The insurance company knew about the disqualification, he said.

The offence for which the four-year ban was imposed was committed on June 15, 2023 at Harbour Road, Banagher .

When that matter came before Tullamore District Court Judge Cody was told Mr Osinski was disqualified at the time for a drug driving offence.

In addition to the four-year driving ban, the judge imposed a suspended three-month sentence and a €700 fine.
