A MAN and a woman appeared before Tullamore District Court accused of money laundering offences.

Both William Cawley (32) and Mary Cawley (35) have addresses at 1 Chapel Street, Tullamore and when they appeared before Judge Andrew Cody time was extended for books of evidence.

William Cawley is accused of several counts of money laundering on various dates in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 involving a PTSB account and a Tullamore Credit Union account.

It is also alleged that on August 14, 2019, he was involved in the laundering of €7,930.63 which was credited to a PTSB account.

Another charge alleges that on December 31, 2023 at Tullamore Credit Union, he engage in possessing €31,422.49 that was proceeds of criminal conduct, held in an account in the name of William Cawley.

He is also accused of illegally handling a 2015 Dublin registered vehicle on various dates between February 17, 2022 and December 31, 2023 and on December 31, 2023 at 1 Chapel Street, had possession of a digital weighing scales and clear resealable bags, in circumstances giving rise to the inference that the possession was connected to a drug trafficking offence.

Two more money laundering offences, allegedly involving €1,930 cash in one case and €4,000 cash in another, were allegedly committed at 1 Chapel Street on December 31, 2023.

Mary Cawley is accused of engaging in money laundering involving €5,950 cash on November 14, 2023 at Arualia Cosmetic Clinic.

Sergeant Richard Thornton applied for the prosecution of both William Cawley and Mary Cawley to be put back to September 9 next for service of books of evidence.

Judge Cody granted the application and advised both accused to inform their solicitor, Aisling Maloney, that they were remanded on continuing bail to appear in court again on that date.
