The man stole groceries from the same store on five separate occasions over the course of four days

A LAOIS MAN who stole groceries from the same store on five separate occasions over the course of four days appeared before Portlaoise District Court last week.

Solicitor for Greg Doyle (47), 18 Railway Mews, Portarlington, Brian Duffy, asked Judge Catherine Ryan to note that his client would be entering a guilty plea to all five charges.

He is charged with the theft of groceries valued at €24.08 from Dunnes Stores, Kyle Centre, Portlaoise on 20 April this year; two days later, on 22 April, with the theft of goods valued at €23.21; a day later, groceries totalling €29; while on 27 April, he again went into Dunnes Stores and on the first occasion stole groceries amounting to €36.44 and on the second occasion, the same day, went in again and took groceries valued at €36.24.

Mr Duffy said that Mr Doyle would need time to gather compensation to pay for the items he had taken.

Judge Ryan remanded Mr Doyle on continuing bail to the 13 July sitting of the court for full compensation and to consider penalty in the case.
