Judge says Offaly resident has 'unusual mixture' of charges against him

A MAN on theft and public order charges was told by Judge Andrew Cody he is alleged to have committed an “unusual mixture” of offences.

Vilius Silingas (45), Droim Liath, Collins Lane, Tullamore appeared before the local District Court and told Judge Cody that Aisling Maloney was his solicitor.

Judge Cody outlined to Mr Silingas that the charges involved the alleged theft of 12 cans of lager and one can of cat food, along with a charge that he was engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour.

Tullamore Show and FBD National Livestock Show celebrates 35 years of success in 2026 “An unusual mixture,” remarked the judge, telling the man that he could elect to go before a judge and jury in the Circuit Court in relation to the theft charges or have them dealt with in the District Court.

Mr Silingas opted for the District Court and Judge Cody directed that full details of the case against him be given to Ms Maloney within three weeks.

The offences were allegedly committed on March 16 last at Aldi, O'Connell Row, Tullamore.

Judge Cody remanded Mr Silingas on continuing bail to October 7 next when he will either enter a plea of guilty or a hearing will take place on November 2.
