Government funding per capita provided to Kilkenny County Council below national average last year

Kilkenny County Council ranked 16th out of 31 local authorities in terms of funding per capita received from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government in 2025.

The Council was allocated €115.4 million last year giving a figure of around €1,108 per person in the county, the median figure of all local authorities nationally.

The mean national figure stood at €1,412, though this is skewed by the higher funded councils as only seven exceeded this average.

Limerick City and County Council was comfortably the highest funded council in the figures with government funding of €3,644 per capita with Louth County Council a distant second on €2,320.

Cork County Council had the lowest funding per capita with €777, closely followed by Galway County Council on €778, although these figures don’t include Cork and Galway cities which have their own councils.

The lowest figure for a county run by a single local authority was Offaly County Council with €798 per capita with Longford County Council coming next on €879.
