‘It’s the seats’: Man fined for drinking at Colbert train station

A MAN has been arrested for shouting aggressively at gardaí at Colbert train station in Limerick city.

Michael Carey, 47, with an address at Lee Estate, Island Road, Limerick, pleaded guilty to committing a section six public order offence on May 3, 2026.

Prosecuting Sergeant Aisling O’Neill, in garda evidence, told the court that gardaí on foot patrol were alerted to Mr Carey’s presence.

The sergeant said that Mr Carey was shouting aggressively at gardaí and continued to remain aggressive.

The gardaí then conveyed the man to Henry Street Garda Station.

The court heard that Mr Carey has six previous public order convictions - all of which are for public order offences, the most recent of which was in 2008.

Solicitor Sarah Ryan, representing Mr Carey, said in mitigation that Mr Carey’s last conviction was recorded nearly twenty years ago.

Ms Ryan further explained that the man “had too much drink”.

Judge Patricia Harney said: “Why he has to go to Colbert Street Station is beyond me”.
