’It’s ideal there,’ he continued, ’to bring life into the city and to bring students into the city’
Erin Gahan Local Fine Gael Councillor Jim Darcy recently called for a collaboration between Waterford City and County Council and South East Technological University to develop student accommodation on the city’s North Quays.
“There’s 14 acres there not developed,” Cllr Darcy said at a recent Waterford City and County Council Metropolitan meeting, asking whether the council and the university could possibly work together to develop purpose-built student accommodation along the Quay.
"It’s ideal there,” he continued, “to bring life into the city and to bring students into the city”, adding that Waterford Council “could easily get a bus across that bridge if we had student accommodation there.”
“I think it could be a game changer for it (the North Quays) at the moment...the one-bedroom flats over there at the moment, I don’t think they’re going to cut it,” Cllr Darcy finished.
