Upgrade works planned for one County Kildare bus stop are expected to be delivered in 2027.

Kildare County Council (KCC) released the information at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which took place on Wednesday, May 20 last.

The bus stop in question was initially raised halfway through the meeting by Independent Cllr Pat Balfe.

He asked KCC: “Can KCC provide an update on the provision of a second bus shelter in Monasterevin, including details of any progress made to date, anticipated timelines for delivery, and any outstanding issues affecting its installation, and to confirm where Monasterevin currently sits on the National Transport Authority’s priority list for bus shelter provision?”

Independent Cllr Pat Balfe | PHOTO CREDIT: KILDARECOCO.IE In response to his query, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: “The existing west bound bus stop in Monasterevin (Stop 152361) is currently under consideration for upgrading.

“Should the location be determined to be suitable, the proposal will be raised for discussion with the National Transport Authority, the service provider and the Municipal District.”

In addition, KCC said that, where it is deemed feasible, a bus shelter ‘will be included in the design as part of the upgrade works’.

KCC concluded: “It is anticipated that any approved upgrade works at this bus stop would be delivered in late 2027.”

Following this, Cllr Balfe proceeded to ask a representative of KCC who was also present at the meeting about the criteria a bus shelter needs in order to qualify for upgrades.

The rep told him: “I’m not sure, but I will follow up with you on it.”
