Twenty-five beds will open at the Letterkenny Community Nursing Unit (CNU) by the end of 2026.

The update came at the HSE Regional Health Forum West, following a question submitted by Fianna Fáil Councillor Ciaran Brogan, regarding the status of the project.

Dermot Monaghan, Integrated Health Area Manager for Donegal , responded that “it is still anticipated that the construction of the new 110-bed Community Healthcare facility in Letterkenny will be completed in Q4 2026, with equipping and operational commissioning to follow. “We are currently putting in place a phased opening with 25 beds to come on stream by year's end.”

Upon completion, the CNU will be a state-of-the-art residential care facility. The building will be divided into four 25-bed households and a dedicated 10-bed dementia unit within a three-storey layout.
