And at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting, which took place on Monday, October 12 last, she submitted a follow-up question to KCC, which read as follows: “Can KCC confirm what plans it has to progress the removal of the derelict boats along the bank beside the car park at Dominican Lane in Athy?”

In response, a senior engineer for KCC told Cllr Breslin: “The Strategic Projects and Public Realm Department have engaged Legal Services to determine landownership in the area.”

They added: “The lands at this location are largely unregistered on the online system and owners will have to be determined prior to configuring a plan to progress removal of the boats from the area.”

Following this, Cllr Breslin told the engineer that this ‘stretch of waterway’ appeared to be a ‘no man’s land’.

She also said: “I know that KCC is doing its best, but we are missing a huge opportunity to help Athy here.”

Cllr Breslin concluded by turning to the engineer and joking to them: “See? I don’t always give out to [KCC’s] engineers!”
