Essential services being denied to many Donegal homeowners - Donegal Daily

An Independent councillor in West Donegal has stated that many businesses are refusing to deliver to homes in the area due to overgrowth.

Some homeowners in West Donegal are being denied access to essential services due to overgrowth on backroads.

The issue has been raised by local councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig.

Mac Giolla Easbuig recorded a video on his Facebook page, where he highlighted the issue and said he has been contacted by countless members of the local business community over the matter.

"Over the last couple of weeks, I have been contacted by a huge amount of businesses ranging from construction companies delivering materials to bin waste lorries. They are no longer going down backroads due to the overgrowth, and this has to be urgently addressed," said Mac Giolla Easbuig.

The Independent councillor said it has raised the issue with the Donegal County Council on numerous occasions in the past, but conceded the matter of overgrowth is a 'grey area'.

"We simply can't have a situation where bins can't be delivered, and people can't have their waste collected, or receive material for construction purposes. I have been raising this issue with the council for a long time, but it is a bit of a grey area, as there is responsibility with the landowners as well. However, what is clear is that something needs to be done about it," said Mac Giolla Easbuig.

Last month, Mac Giolla Easbuig also highlighted how many homeowners across the county were unable to pay their electricity bills.
