Plans for the project in Glasson are expected to be lodged early next year.

A Westmeath community is looking for a bypass for its village.

Chair of Glasson Tidy Towns, Jack Moran believes traffic calming measures are essential and children should be able to walk and cycle safely through the village.

A planning application for the project is expected to be lodged in the first quarter of next year.

Currently there are no traffic restrictions beyond the speed limit, while a lack of public and off-street parking is created ongoing problems for residents.

A village survey found that HGVs are unable to navigate a corner without crossing the white line.
