A councillor has claimed that children are left ’soaking' from the rain at one County Kildare bus stop due to a lack of a bus shelter.

The claim was made by Independent Cllr Tom McDonnell at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which took place on Wednesday, May 20 last.

Cllr McDonnell aired his concerns just after he motioned for Kildare County Council (KCC) to install a bus shelter at the Cross and Passion School bus stop in Kilcullen.

Speaking further on his motion, he told KCC that ‘children are soaking [from the rain]’ at this particular bus stop, especially during the Winter period.

He also maintained that the provision of a bus shelter at this location should be ‘a priority’ for KCC.

In response to the motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: “The existing bus stop at Cross and Passion School, Kilcullen (Stop 132641) is currently under consideration for upgrading, relocation, etc. as required.”

KCC added: “Where it is deemed feasible, a bus shelter will be included in the design as part of the upgrade works.”
