There has been call for traffic calming measures

Caoimhin Treacy Kildare County Council will carry out a traffic safety assessment in a Newbridge estate said to be blighted by speeding, with some drivers allegedly “thinking that they’re in Mondello”.

This emerged at the most recent meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District, where cllr Chris Pender proposed that the local authority carries out an assessment at Standhouse Lawns “and identify suitable traffic calming measures to address resident concerns, including traffic calming, signage, road markings, speed monitoring and any other appropriate measures”.

Area engineer Carthac de Brí issued the council’s response, stating that the municipal district office will carry out an assessment at the location.

The reply added that “if traffic calming measures are deemed to be required, then it will be added to the list of locations identified for traffic calming measures”.

Cllr Pender welcomed the report and noted that other councillors have previously raised the issue. He said residents have described the issue as “some drivers thinking that they’re in Mondello”.

He noted that the area affected is near Scoil Mhuire, highlighting the potential danger to children, and said he “can imagine that the traffic calming measures will be deemed necessary".
